With age, a person may experience diminishing short-term memory.
An excellent exercise for activating brain cells is chanting and humming mantra Om in the following manner:
Inhale and on exhalation chant ‘Ooooo-mmm’. Chanting should not be loud, in fact, find your natural tone – a tone that that you can produce without tensing any of your voice organs.
While chanting, be aware of vibrations in the chest, then in the soles, then in the head. Concentrate more on the head, make it vibrate. Hold the intention that you are activating your brain cells and boosting your short-term memory.
While chanting/humming be aware of your body and allow different groups of muscles to relax more and more.
Do it for 10 minutes daily.
Other traditional measures include balanced nutrition, exercises for the mind (e.g. maths), physical exercises, de-stressing, getting involved in social activities, etc.
Foods that are beneficial for memory are almonds (soaked overnight), walnuts, honey, apples, leafy greens, etc.
