This ‘Magic Spell’ was written as a part of an assignment for Silvia Hartman’s distance learning course that said, “Write something to change the fabric of reality.”<\/p>\n

I invoke you, Gods of Rain
\nTo bring some living rain
\nOn the dusty city of Delhi!
\nOn the dusty trees
\nthat are waiting for a wash!
\nOn the dusty roads
\nthat are waiting to be cleaned.
\nOn the clouds of smog
\nthat need to be settled down,
\neven for a while.<\/p>\n

I invoke you, Gods of Rain
\nTo visit Delhi
\nat this unusual hour.
\nTo relieve the thirst of the land,
\nto clean it up from
\ndesert dust.<\/p>\n

I can feel your movement in space!
\nCome to Delhi
\nand come in peace!<\/p>\n

Bring the rain, the living rain,
\nBring the freshness and new start!
\nBring the promise of more to come
\nWhen monsoons do visit us.
\nBut for now, a December rain
\nMay it happen, now, and fast!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When I was re-reading this evocation after a week, it started raining! The rain was gentle and it stayed through the night. In the morning everything around was clean and bright; the gentle scent of washed foliage permeated the cool air. A local park in New Delhi at December-end felt like a park in the Russian north in early autumn.<\/p>\n
